CitySquares secures new funding for national roll-out

CitySquares.com, a hyper-local search service in the northeastern USA, is expanding to provide enhanced web presence for businesses across America. Beginning in November, CitySquares will begin a national rollout. By the spring of 2009 the site will feature over 16 million businesses from coast to coast—expanding on the current database of 1.5 million.

This move comes as CitySquares secures investments from Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks and Chairman of HDNet and from Jonathan Kraft, of the Kraft Group.

“The investment capital we have received from Mark Cuban and Jonathan Kraft validates our position as a leading player in the realm of hyper-local search,” says Ben Saren, CEO and co-founder of CitySquares. Started in 2005 in Boston, CitySquares has emerged as one of the top two-thousand most visited websites in the nation, according to Quantcast. In September 2008, CitySquares received over 1 million unique users; monthly traffic now eclipses such brand name sites as: Dunkin’Donuts.com, Mastercard.com , NYC.com and WNBC.com.

According to Comscore, 3% of all internet users in New England use CitySquares for local search.

“We recognize the value of local search and see CitySquares as a dynamic player in that space,” says Mark Cuban.

Jonathan Kraft, President of the Kraft Group, is a believer in nurturing businesses born in Massachusetts. “We are looking forward to working with CitySquares to leverage their strength in local search to benefit our business interests, like Patriot Place, and also for other local companies that can benefit from CitySquares’ expertise,” Kraft says.

Saren says the expansion establishes new infrastructure for CitySquares to replicate the success it has had in the Boston market, expanding existing business partnerships and establishing new ones.

“Boston is still our home base and we will continue to roll out new innovations and initiatives here first because we have such strong relationships with business owners here. As new products and services are developed we will then roll them out to the entire country. This is truly an exciting time for CitySquares and for our partners,” says Saren.
