Greg Kidd
Founder and CEO, 3Taps, USA

Greg Kidd has been active in the “exchange space” of matching seekers and providers throughout his career. His first startup was Dispatch Management Services (DMSC) – which set up one dispatch center per metro area to service multiple messenger firms. Greg Kidd has been active in the “exchange space” of matching seekers and providers throughout his career. His first startup was Dispatch Management Services (DMSC) – which set up one dispatch center per metro area to service multiple messenger firms. The service started in New Zealand and grew to the world’s largest on-demand dispatch organization in the world with a NASDAQ IPO and a workforce of 5,000+ stretching from Perth to Edinburgh.

After leaving the chairmanship of DMSC with his two top coders, Greg participated in numerous other startups from Silicon Valley. The lessons learned about text messaging and clearing and settlement laid a founding understanding for the launch of Twitter and Square – both by Jack Dorsey, who was one of the coders that departed DMSC with Greg. A third idea of Jack’s regarding the direct matching of seekers and providers in the classifieds exchange space is 3taps.

Greg’s team has been working to create a “data commons” of all public domain offers of goods, services, and information that are on-boarded by sites such as Craigslist, eBay, and Backpage in the U.S. The effort has experienced push back on the legal and technical front from some that believe these listings are owned by the services that post them rather than by users or the public at large once they are made available in the public domain of search engine results on the internet. The legal precedents from the case should establish the future boundaries regarding access rights and responsibilities for postings from seekers and providers on the open web.

In his previous life, Greg has worked for Booz Allen, the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, and the regulatory consultancy Promontory Financial. In addition to being a first round investor in Twitter, and a founding advisor to Square, Greg also operates Hard Yaka – an angel fund that makes direct investments in the U.S. and overseas in startups in the exchange, messaging, and payments sectors. Greg is a graduate and former instructor at the National Outdoor Leadership School. His MPA is from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, his MBA is from Yale, and his AB in history is from Brown.

Greg Kidd lives in Muir Beach, just over the Golden Gate Bridge in the Bay Area of San Francisco
