Social Events
GM Amsterdam 2007

As Amsterdam is ICMA headquarters, we’ve put together an exciting social programme to give you a true Dutch experience. The costs for these unique social events are included in the General Meeting registration fee (except for the Gala Party which is charged separately). Make sure to register for the social events on the registration page to be posted mid-August.

Wednesday 31 October
Teambuilding Painting Event

Don’t worry, we’re not going to be looking for the next Rembrandt! Although, being we are in a city well known for its arts and artists we thought it would be the best way to kick off the Amsterdam General Meeting and get those creative juices flowing. Even those who claim they are not creative have truly enjoyed this teambuilding activity which is lead by a professional artist.
Please note this activity is limited to 50 persons on a first come first served basis.

Thursday 1 November
Traditional Dutch Dinner

Haesjeclaes.jpg

Join us for a typical Dutch dinner this evening at “Haesje Claes.” This restaurant is situated in the historical center of Amsterdam, across from the Amsterdam Historical Museum. The restaurant occupies six, epic buildings, in which the original architectural features such as little steps, corridors and hallways all have been preserved. Likewise, the exterior of the building is a beautiful example of traditional Dutch architecture. Enjoy the local cuisine and a friendly evening full of the sense of history.

Friday 2 November
Free Time

We decided to give everyone the night off, after some full days of learning, networking and the like. The Radisson SAS is situated in the heart of Amsterdam, which provides a nice opportunity for you and your fellow publishers to take advantage of the fine dining Amsterdam has to offer.

Saturday 3 November
Gala Party on the Prins van Oranje

The Prins van Oranje was once a passenger ship owned by the famous Dutch Shipping Company, Alkmaar Packet, which transported hundreds of thousands of people in the areas of Amsterdam, Zaandam and Alkmaar from 1864 until 1950. In this period it was quite common for the ship to carry some 1400 people and 10 tons worth of cargo.

After 1955 the ship was renovated several times and even functioned as a hotel at one point. In a later period, the ship, then called “Lady Margaret,” served as a cruise ship on the rivers Rhine and Moselle.

The “Prins van Oranje” is so special due to the fantastic atmosphere, the striking interior, the intimacy and the feeling of adventure that you will experience from the moment you step onto this historic ship.
Tickets for the Gala Party are separate from the General Meeting registration.
