Felix has been in classified publishing for almost 20 years. Being involved in pure classified publications early in the South African landscape he quickly made huge inroads into those markets with first Auto Trader and then Junk Mail Publishing of which he is since 10 years the Group MD and shareholder.

He learned long ago, that if you understand the formula of building a classified product, have bounds of enthusiasm energy and passion, work your butt off, and build a good team around you, stay focused and keep on track with your objectives you WILL be VERY successful in this market. Recently however, he realized that if you understand how Google works, have bounds of enthusiasm energy and passion, work your butt off, surround yourself with a team that knows more than you’ll ever know about online, be prepared to change your objectives every 4 months, you MIGHT still be around at the end of the year. Drinking a lot can help too! He realizes that we have gone from a very definite and clear world to a one filled with obscurity for the future of our industry. Sometimes luck and timing are all that is needed. This makes it the most interesting and exciting time in his classified career.

One he will be happy to share with you and expect the same in return at this conference. Felix has been an active member of ICMA and has enjoyed a term as an ICMA committee member from 2003-2005.

Wim Houben, is the rare serial e-entrepreneur who has the talent to spot the right, viable trends in the e-landscape and translate them into tangible business opportunities, despite never finishing high school. He combines this business acumen with a no-nonsense, hands-on management style that has shown to generate real results.

At the age of 24, he started his first company: Cynex. Cynex was specialized in open source Internet solutions for local governments. It was at Cynex that Wim first came in contact with wireless networks, WIFI, back in 1999. This acquaintance was key in Wim’s further career as an entrepreneur. The high school, he dropped out of, was starting a large e-learning project in which all students were obligated to buy a laptop. Wim succeeded to convince the school board to go wireless. So Cynex installed a campus-wide Wifi network together with Cisco Systems. It was at that moment the largest Wifi project in Europe.

It was this project that gave Wim the idea to start Sinfilo (2002), the first Belgian Public Wireless LAN Operator and was market leader ever since its incorporation. Sinfilo had built out a network of hotspots in Belgium, covering the most important venues, such as hotels, airports, highway restaurants and train stations. Ten months after its establishment, Telenet (Belgium’s largest cable Operator) bought the company, generating a maximum return on investment for its founders and investors.

Because Wim could not wait for the mobile future to happen, he founded i-City (2004) with the support of Siemens, Microsoft, Fujitsu Siemens, Telenet, Concentra Media and the Flemish Government. i-City is a so-called “living laboratory” in the Limburg region of Belgium for research on various broadband and ICT applications. i-City is a wireless network (covering the city of Hasselt), a software platform and a community of 4000 test users.

Now Wim is CEO at exuvis (2007). Exuvis is a Global Enabler and Developer of Online and Mobile Multimedia advertising Services and Products, which allows Publishers, Advertisers and Brands to optimize online Marketing Strategies and Generate Revenue Streams.

Having already started his first company, P.plus, during his Business Engineering studies in 2004, Christophe quit the university during his last Master year and decided to focus on his professional career. After working several years as an ICT-consultant through his company P.plus he co-founded 2 companies in 2006: Lithium, specialized in e-Business and e-Government solutions, and TheWebshopStore, providing a tailored e-Commerce platform to SME’s.

Christophe is now Chief Technologist at exuvis, the company where he joined Wim Houben and Karen Nies in 2008. During the last 3 years they have built a solid development team, mostly off-shore, and have turned the enality platform into an extensive platform for supporting Publishers, Advertisers and Brands. Part of the enality platform is the Community Based Recommender System, for which exuvis was awarded a government grant to support its innovative development.

Christophe is a passionate ice-hockey goaltender and loves to travel (business or pleasure).

Sally Winfield joined Associated Newspapers 17 years ago in the Classified Department of the Evening Standard. She started her career as a Telesales Executive and was promoted through the ranks of Field Sales and management to become Ad Director of the Evening Standard in 1996. Four years later, she was promoted to her Group Classified position where her remit covers UK, London and free titles – the Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday, Ireland on Sunday, Evening Standard, Metro and Loot. Following this, her role moved away from day-to-day operations to one focused on strategy and business development, with the establishment of a Business Intelligence team. This team provided Associated Newspapers with a genuine forum for strategic planning, tracking and research, ideas and innovation. It reported developments, trends, opportunities and threats to Classified around the world, but particularly in the UK. In December 2004, Sally was appointed Managing Director of Loot, Associated’s brand-leading free ads newspaper. However, after 20 years’ of corporate life, in October 2007, she set up her own management consultancy and to date has worked with several well-established and renowned companies, both media and otherwise. In 2008, she gained (with merit) an Advanced Diploma in Professional Coach-Mentoring, a qualification that is professionally accredited by the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC).
